IMO is in the process of identifying the feasibility for LNG as a fuel for shipping in the North American ECA that came into effect on 1 August 2012. The objective of this study was to gather new knowledge about the potential of LNG powered shipping in the North American ECA and identify the necessary conditions for the successful implementation of LNG as a fuel source for shipping in the region (Published in 2016).

Abstract
DNV GL was engaged by the International Maritime Organization (IMO ) to study the feasibility of using LNG (Liquefied Natural Gas ) as a ship fuel for international shipping in the North American Emission Control Area (ECA).
